Beach Car
Any suggestions or advice for a long car ride and a trip to the beach with a 4 month old?
In 3 weeks my husband and I will be taking what is usually a 15 hour car ride to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Our daughter will just be turning 4 months at this time, she is very easy going happy and has been sleeping through the night since she was 2 weeks old! Any suggestions, advice or personal experience would be helpful for both the car ride and having a baby so young at the beach!
Aahhh yes, the wonderful car ride with a baby. That can be one of the worst car rides possible, or not as bad as you thought. First, do not set yourself up for failure. Insure you have the items needed...teething ring (some with water and place in cooler), pain medicine, gas medicine (no not for you for baby) and some visual toys that can see. Sometimes a toy holder that dangles the toys above the head is helpful. They will play with them. Plan on one person sitting in the back seat next to baby to help with monitoring and entertaining. Try not to break up the normal baby time pattern, especially meals and sleep. They will also need play time, but that is why the parent is sitting next to them and has toys. Lastly, figure on at least two extra hours of travel. With feedings, cleanings and normal events, extra time is needed. OH, shade in the vehicle is a good idea, but do not block the drivers view. A towel or baby blanket over the car carrier should surfice. Hope this helps.

Is a car a necessity in LA? Where is the best and closest beach to downtown LA?
I plan to visit LA next month and have heard that you probably cannot get around without a car in LA. Can you get by in LA without a car? I've heard the transit is bad and you can access some points through the metro rail as long as you avoid the blue line. Also, where is the nearest beach to downtown LA? Is it worth going to the closest beach to downtown LA or should I go to beaches further away? I'm looking for a beach that isn't too crowded.
well you haave Santa Monica and Venice beach
which are the closest beaches to downtown LA
and direct service on transit as
well
for Santa Monica (from Union station or along Temple street)
you can board a Santa Monica #10 and take it to the last
stop (2nd/Colorado) then you will be 1 block from the pier and the beach
cost is $1.75 one away (note for $3.50 you can get a day from the Santa Monica big blue bus driver and then use that day pass on
any other Santa Monica blue bus including #2 which go to Venice beach
