Celebracion: The Warner Bros. Recordings $49.98 While one has to wonder whether the demand for Malo's product is wide enough to merit a four-CD box set rather than individual reissues of some or all of their albums, Celebracion certainly does a great job of presenting the band's legacy in total. Each of their four 1972-1974 Warner Brothers albums is included in gatefold sleeves, with a 20-page booklet that goes over the band's history with some depth, bolstered by interview quotes from several bandmembers. Two to five bonus tracks are added to each disc/album, though unfortunately these are just shorter single edits of album tracks. There's one previously unreleased cut, "Pana," but that's just an unreleased single edit of the same track of that name that appears on their debut album. Although the albums can be erratic and slightly decline in quality after the debut, Malo, they amply illustrate the band's importance as one of the most exciting outfits to fuse rock with Latin and jazz. Certainly there are similarities with Santana, as might be expected from a band featuring Carlos Santana's brother on guitar. But Malo was more Latin-oriented and sometimes expert at constructing multi-part extended tracks with blistering interplay between hard rock guitar, Latin percussion, and jazz brass. In addition, they could sometimes summon heartfelt, sentimental soul ballads, the hit "Suavecito" being the famous one, though each album has one or two songs in the same vein. Greatest Hits [Warner Bros.] $18.98 The Red Hot Chili Peppers' Greatest Hits is a compelling listen, culling tracks from the band's 1989 breakthrough, Mother's Milk, to its melodic 2002 release, By the Way. In some ways, one could view this as the best of the John Frusciante years, charting most of the band's work with the talented guitarist after the death of original member Hillel Slovak. The tracks here are all hits, including such stellar singles as "Give It Away," "Under the Bridge," and Frusciante's first single after his phoenix-like resurrection from heroin addiction, "Scar Tissue." It should be noted, though, that as a Warner-issued hits collection such fan favorites as "Taste the Pain" and the touchstone antidrug anthem "Knock Me Down" -- both from the 1989 EMI release Mother's Milk -- aren't included. (Similarly, nothing from the Chili Peppers' rambunctious early efforts -- including 1984's Red Hot Chili Peppers, 1985's Freaky Styley, and 1987's The Uplift Mofo Party Plan -- appears on this hits collection.) Nonetheless, Greatest Hits still portrays the band as one of the most consistently brilliant groups of its generation. Helping to paint this picture are such solid cuts as the group's searing, albeit overplayed, 1989 cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" as well as its rarely available addition to the Coneheads movie soundtrack, "Soul to Squeeze." Not surprisingly, "My Friends" is the sole cut to make it from the band's disappointing one-off effort with Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, One Hot Minute. Throw in two new tracks ("Fortune Faded" and "Save the Population") that easily match the quality of the material collected here, and you've got one of the most consistently listenable Chili Pepper releases since Blood Sugar Sex Magik. The Best of George Benson [Warner Bros.] $11.98 Warner Bros.' second George Benson compilation, unlike Collection, only draws from the label's own catalog, so by definition, it's a less representative sampler. And even then, it does not give a thorough overview of Benson's 17-year tenure at Warner Bros. Understandably for a best-of album, it concentrates on such hot-selling Benson vocal hits as "This Masquerade," "Give Me the Night," "Turn Your Love Around," and "On Broadway." Yet there is not so much as a single instrumental, nor anything from Benson's last five Warners albums, the last three of which (Tenderly, Big Boss Band, Love Remembers) contain a good deal of his best mature work, if not any hits. So, in other words, this collection serves those who are interested in George Benson the chart-maker, and it's a fine collection for that audience. ~ Richard S. If you did not enjoy Super Mario 64, then you will most likely not enjoy Super Mario Galaxy. It is another 3-D like world where you must beat planets in galaxies. This is similar to Super Mario 64 where you must beat places in those rooms.
If you enjoyed Super Smash Bros.single player mode on the 64, you'll love the single player mode on Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It is very long, and will keep you busy for days, maybe even weeks! In the single player mode, which is known as Subspace Emissary, you must defeat many levels, can unlock every character, and more. I even enjoyed the little movie clips in between the levels, giving it a great storyline. Also, I know this is just for you, but the multiplayer function is great. You can even use a WiFi connection to play with people from all over!
