okay surfer with nsp mini-mal what board to get next?
im an intermediate surfer. ive been surfing for about a year but this summer have been going out every morning for 2-3 sessions and sometimes again in the middle of the day too. Ive really picked up in my ability and when i get a good wave i can stand up straight away and ride it for a while too. I want to make surfing my sport and need to know what board to get next cause i really want to progress to a short-board.
I can paddle and catch waves efficiently, i can stand up quickly (within 1 or 2 seconds) but when i do the board sometimes rocks and i lose my balance. Thats what i can do well. Im using an nsp mini-mal (http://www.newsurfproject.com/index.php?cccpage=fun72) its 7'2"
and im probably looking to get a 6'8" shortboard, my height is 5'11" and i weight 80 kilos. if there are any knowledgeable surfers or surfboard makers out there some feedback would be much appreciated.
what you need a surfboard that floats you well enough to paddle and catch a wave at your present skill level. I always counsel against buying ANY surfbaord on line, unless you really know what you are looking for. If you are asking questions on YA, , I suspect you need better 'guidance'.
Don't waste your time on line, we don't know anywhere nearly enough about you, or where you surf, and we don't have an opportunity to discuss these things with you. We aren't your surfing buddies, we don't necessarily surf where you or know anybody who does. Go to a good local surf shop (or a shop where ever you usually surf) and discuss your options with the folks in the shop. They can give you far better advice than anybody out here in 'cyberspace'. At the shop, they will discuss what you are looking for in surfing, and what works best in local surf conditions. be concerned for size and design, but don't get too hung up on "big name" brands, there are tons of great local shapers out there. And, every decent shop has plenty of used boards or boards on consignment for sale.
Be careful about taking on-line advice from kids who may know less about surfing than you do, and the internet phonies.
Anybody who recommends a specific size or design of a surfboard to a stranger on line is foolish. Anybody who would take that advice is MORE foolish.

How to Setup your NSP Surfboard
What you need a surfboard that floats you well enough to paddle and catch a wave at your PRESENT SKILL LEVEL at YOUR PRESENT SIZE. We don't know anywhere near enough about you, and, we don't have any opportunity for dialogue. And you need to be perfectly honest about your actual ability.
Don't waste your time on line, we don't know anywhere nearly enough about you, we don't have an opportunity to discuss these things with you. We aren't your surfing buddies, most of us don't necessarily surf where you do or know anybody who does. Go to a good local surf shop and discuss your options with the folks in the shop. They can give you far better advice than anybody out here in 'cyberspace'.
Folly waves get better as Autumn comes, but like all east coast places, they are very fickle. I rarely surf Folly without having a long board in the car, "just in case".
In Folly, I would highly recommend stopping in McKevlin's. They have a great cvariety iof surfboards, at varying prices, and they won't sell you a popout.
The folks at Ocean Surf shop are very knowledgeable too. However, they don't follow the "no popout' standard, but they can get you something far better than an NSP.
If at all possible, avoid buying an NSP. They are mass produced in sweatshop factories in Thailand. The folks who work in those shops make less in a year than NSP executives do in a week. I have gotten some very nasty feedback from the NSP folks when I say this. So, to be fair, I guess owning a board made in a sweatshop is better than having no surfboard at all. It is your money to spend.
