Rack Coated
I need some help, i need to know about what kinds of wood you would use for a coat rack.?
i would also like the kind of stains and some Designs i could to get some thoughts of how i could my coat rack, if you have any web sites i could find this please tell me it.
What type of coat rack? One with a vertical 4x4 and a base? If you are looking for 4x4's, your choices are going to be limited. You can generally find pressure treated pine and cedar at home centers like HD or Lowe's. Neither of these would work well for a coat rack. In the millwork department, you can sometimes find oak, which would work nicely. If you go to a full service lumber yard, you will be able to find Douglas Fir, which would also make a nice coat rack once sanded and stained. You can find hooks at HD in the hardware department. You can find a finial for the top in the millwork department. You will need some 1x4 to make feet, which will lap around the center post. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions. I had a coat rack pull out of a wall (not sure if it's plaster or concrete) that was hung with plastic anchors?
This is not a hollow wall so I used plastic expansion anchors. After the coat rack pulled out, I realized that the hole I drilled for the anchor was just a hair off center so the screw didn't line up with the anchor and the screw cut through the plastic anchor instead of expanding it. My questions are:
Do I need to repair the hole or can I use some other type of anchor in the existing hole?
If I need to repair the hole and re-drill for a new anchor, what do I use to fill it? Is joint compound enough or do I need some of that epoxy based compound.
Get bigger anchors if you want to use the same holes. Otherwise fill with spackle and drill new holes about 3/4 inch away.
