A poem to read and remember?
Your Beach, My Beach
Your beach is filled with laughter,
Tranquil waters and sandcastles.
Children burying their fathers in the sand,
Seashells spilling their secrets.
Your beach is adorned in umbrellas,
And bikinis.
Picnic baskets and radios.
Suntan lotions and cool drinks
Protect and hydrate your memories.
My beach was strewn with bodies.
Of sons and fathers calling out to loved ones.
Seashells replaced by spent rounds,
Artillery shells invade the sand.
Children's laughter gives way to war cries,
Hands that held funnel cake, hold grenades.
God save our sons and daughters!
My beach is guarded by snipers
That don't love America like I do,
Or red, white or blue, much less me or you.
Your beach freely gives lifeguards.
My beach freely guards your life.

The vividness of 'Your Beach, My Beach' has more clarity in it than the most professional of photographs. I know it is said that one picture is worth a thousand words, but this heartfelt reminder has many more than one picture in it, covers vast time and many different places, honors millions of veterans and their families and evokes in me far more than just words -whew - posting this to the fridge. We are very very blessed to have you share this with us.

Now, if this lifeguard was caught off guard or wasn't too experienced, what would happen, is this person will also end up drowning the lifeguard and themselves...because they are pulling the lifeguard DOWN.
This is what happens when we are in a state of panic. Now, what you are doing is you are pulling your ex down frantically, because you are needy right now. BUT, your ex feels like he/she is being choked and is drowning too, and your ex's first response will be to kick you off so they can get some air.
Don't be needy and don't show your needs right now, because this only makes your ex feel as though you are not dependent enough and as if your expectations on them are too high.
