I don't see a WEP key on my router...?
I can't figure out my WEP key to add my laptop to my network. I've tried that http://192.168.1.1 thing but it won't work for some reason (it takes me to a search engine), & then I have no WEP key visible on my router. What can I do? Also, my router is a Motorola Surfboard Model: SBV5120 & the three keys that I do see on it say: CUSTOMER S/N, S/N, HFC MAC ID, USB CPE MAC ID, & MTA MAC ID. Are one of these the WEP key? HELP please!! Thank you, all assistance will be much appreciated.
The WEP (Wired Equivalency Protection) key is a password that you make up when you set your router up. It's less secure then WPA or WPA 2. most routers use a 128 bit key which translates into 26 characters.
The Motorola Surfboard is not a router but a modem that receives the signal from your internet provider and from which you connect to your computer.
You still need to buy a router either wired or wireless to create a network and be able connect more then one computer to it.

What driver/drivers do I need to get my motorola SURFboard to communicat with my HP through a USB connection?
My ethernet card is fried and I have no way to connect to the internet except at work and I had planned on downloading the things I needed and taking them home on a USB key, I've looked all over the web including on motorola's site but they don't offer the drivers you need they only offer a program that removes the drivers and I have no idea what else I should be looking for, i've found alot of sites that want me to download some program that will updated all the drivers on my computer but I don't need that on my work computer and it's not going to download anything on my computer at home if I take it there because it has no internet connection....any help would be greatly appreciated. the modem is a motorola SURFboard 5101
it obtains DNS and IP automaticly thats not the problem, the problem is that the computer cannot find the driver for it and I cannot find it online
If you couldn't find it on HP site easy, you could try a program I use. It automatically updates your drivers, saves me a lot of time and frustration. Take a look here for those drivers.
