White Prints
My black and white darkroom prints are coming out grey, what could be the problem?
I've taken my Kodak BW400CN films to a photo lab to get processed (was out of film developer and they're incredible hard to get around here). Now all my darkroom prints from those films are coming out grey toned and i cant figure out why. If they used color processing chemicals on my film, which i have a feeling they did, could that be it?
They should have used color processing to develop that film. BW400CN requires normal C41 processing.
BW400CN has a deep orange colored film base not the clear to slightly colored base like regular B&W. You MUST adjust for that if you are making prints yourself in the darkroom. If you don't your prints will be murky and flat.
If you intend to use chromogenic film for darkroom printing I highly recommend Ilford XP2. It prints much better in a traditional darkroom, scans exceptionally well and is exquisitely stunning when printed properly..
